Neuroscience for Therapists
Stress and Trauma: Neurobiology and Clinical Applications
Saturday, 28 February 2015 (10am - 4.30pm)
Do you want to learn more about neuroscience and start integrating it into your clinical work but when you do it seems to difficult to access and make sense of? Then this day may be the event for you.
Kathrin Stauffer, UKCP registered Body Psychotherapist and Author will lead this one-day workshop focusing on the nervous system and its functions in states of wellbeing, stress and trauma, but mostly the focus is on how we can make use of the neuroscience in working with our clients. Good self-soothing and self-regulating skills turn out to be vital in almost all areas of life. This includes the processing of traumatic events, and this day will address some of the processes involved in the formation and resolution of post-traumatic stress states as well as ‘ordinary’ stress. A rough overview of the topic of memory will help to understand the nature of traumatic memories, and some techniques learned from Somatic Trauma Therapy will give practitioners some practical skills. I will present some theory, some clinical examples, and also experiential exercises. Participants are welcome to bring case material for discussion. Kathrin Stauffer PhD, UKCP Registered Body Psychotherapist, is the author of ‘Anatomy & Physiology for Psychotherapists: Connecting Body & Soul’ (W.W. Norton 2010). Originally a research biochemist, she retrained at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy in London. She works in private practice in Cambridge and London as a body psychotherapist, biodynamic massage therapist, trainer and supervisor. She has been teaching anatomy and physiology for many years and has developed a good sense of what is digestible and of interest for therapists. CPD: 6 hours Cost: £75.00 / Early Bird - £60 (on payments received by Friday, 9 January 2015). |
