Psychological Therapies

Psychotherapy and Counselling

Reasons for commencing therapy are many and varied.  For many of us it can be a case of feeling stuck, uncomfortable or generally not at ease with ourselves, others or life in general.  Or you may be seeking support for specific difficulties like depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties or work challenges.

There are many approaches to Psychotherapy and Counselling so how do you choose the therapist and therapeutic approach that is right for you?

Research suggests that it is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client that is most predictive of successful outcomes in therapy.   Therefore it is worth taking your time to find someone you feel comfortable and safe with and where you like their manner towards you (ie, you feel they treat you with respect).  It is also important that their approach makes sense to you.

For more information about choosing a psychotherapist or counsellor you might want to take a look at the guidelines on the UKCP and BACP websites.

Living with anxiety was an everyday reality; I've realised you don't have to live that way.
I have come to understand that I'm not so different from other people.  I've always thought of myself as a little odd.  I'm much more accepting of myself now and feel less guilty.
I truly appreciate everything that has taken place over the past 3 months and your support getting through the crisis point has been invaluable.
