Steve offers contribution-based counselling and addiction recovery coaching at Silk House Therapy & Wellbeing on behalf of the big room cic; a non-profit community organisation.
Steve works with adults experiencing a variety of life problems. In particular those adults who have traumatic backgrounds and struggle with shame and self-esteem issues. Steve specialises in addiction recovery (abstinence model) and emotional sobriety.
Steve's approach is integrative, combining a person-centred foundation with cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) strategies and psychodynamic insights. His focus is on the client’s presenting difficulties as well as their relevant history and key relationships.
Steve's aim is to provide a safe space and a supportive therapeutic relationship where clients can explore issues that are important to them or difficult to process. His counselling and coaching style promotes self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-compassion.
Steve is a fully qualified counsellor with experience and training in acute mental health problems including addiction recovery. He completed an advanced diploma in counselling in 2001. He has extensive experience in group facilitation having run groups for The Priory Alcohol Treatment Unit MDGH, Adullam Housing, and Acorn Recovery Projects. Steve volunteered for the mental health charity Saneline over a period of 8 years providing emotional and crisis support for callers. In his spare time he writes an addiction recovery-based blog 12-Step Philosophy and has had several articles published in recovery magazines and on addiction recovery-based websites.
Other training includes: Certificate in Counselling (1999), Further Education Teaching Certificate (2005), Level 3 Addiction Recovery Coaching Course (2012), Mentor training for Cheshire Probation Service.
In January 2022 Steve became an authorised facilitator of the Self Management and Recovery Training (SMART) with UK SMART Recovery. The SMART model is based on CBT, REBT, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy a secular and science based approach to addiction recovery.
Accreditation and Memberships
Steve is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), a fully insured practitioner, and works in a voluntary capacity with the big room cic. The purpose of his service is to provide financially accessible and inclusive counselling and coaching aimed at individual adults.
